When we get feedback that isn’t pleasant, positive, or necessary it causes a few different things to happen:
- We tend to respond in a ‘knee-jerk’ reaction
- We also get the opportunity to step back and figure out ‘Where is this negative feeling coming from?’
As estheticians, we have to expect negative feedback.
Negative feedback can actually be quite motivational. It gets you thinking:
- How could I have done things differently?
- What could I do to improve?
- What am I going to do to improve?
If you bring something new to the table that no one has seen before, people tend to react in two ways:
- They disagree with what you’re doing
- They can do it better.
Use negative feedback to help you think about ways to better yourself and your business.
Feedback can always be used for good, negative feedback keeps you balanced.
When we endure resistance, that’s when we struggle; through this struggle comes growth.
As estheticians in this day and age, we find ourselves brown-nosing a lot more trying to keep clients happy so they don’t go to Yelp or Google and write us poor reviews.
Because of that, it’s hard for us as estheticians to be honest with our clients, ourselves, and each other.
It’s not until you can get to a place of comfort within yourself, that you can truly have a comradery with your clients.
To be successful in our industry you have to have genuine passion, not simply money driven desires.
If your business is money driven, there will come a time when you look at yourself and say ‘Why am I doing this?’
When you receive feedback of any kind, retreat inwards, center yourself and use it to your benefit.
